Psychedelic Plants Research Laboratory was originally started as AQi Fzono's experimental Electronic music Unit in 1987, when he was a highschool student. In the next year, 1988, Fzono released and self-produced 1st album of this unit in Japan (200 copies only). It was released under the name "Psychedelic Plants Research Laboratory", however it was totally composed, arranged, performed, recorded and produced by AQi Fzono himself. So it's not "solo album" but actually it's considered Fzono's public "first album", and known as legendary item among Fzono's fans.

Later, the name "Psychedelic Plants Research Laboratory" used as the band name of the first Trance Unit which Fzono performed with various musicians and performers and held guerrilla live in NY.

PPRL started as an underground Psychedelic trance / Rave performance band heavily influenced by 60s and 70s psychedelia and hippie culture. The audio-visual live performances they held in the early days of their career titled “Multimedia Visionquest” that featured electronic and ethnic music, video drug and trance dancers, received publicity.
The guerrilla live series which considered as the one of the Pioneering few of Outdoor "Rave" were succeed to the Outdoor Rave series by "Far East Acid House Quartet, Otherwise the LSD Liberation Front", Fzono's another Trance band in Japan, on the other hand, "Psychedelic Plants Research Laboratory" continues international activities as his Solo Electronic Dance Music / Psychedelic Trance Unit in Europe, Asia and US.

PPRL have released a couple of studio albums such as “Mars Botanical Garden” ( 1989 ) and “Unexplored Region” ( 1994 ).

In 1999, PPRL released the 3rd album / club remix album "Mrs. Cyborg's 12 Dreams", which included “Mrs. Cyborg”, “Electrode Land” and “Wireless Junction”, were later brought back as Hard Trance Techno remixes by them and became their signature tunes. Some DJs in and outside of Japan played those songs extensively and made them club hits.

In 2007, "Trance-Rave Cosmology" (by AQi Fzono with Trance-Rave Daughters) released. This album includes trance remixes of “Mrs. Cyborg”, “Electrode Land” (as "Aurora Heads" in the US).

After the formation of Psychedelic Plants Research Laboratory in 1987, the band has used several other names on occasions such as Acid Head Organization, Aurorae and Aurora Heads. Currently Aurora Heads is the only one used. They were based in the state of Washington, USA since 2001 - 2007, however PPRL removed its base to Fzono's native Japan, but continues activities internationally.

About the Unit Name

After started as "Psychedelic Plants Research Laboratory" in 1987, Fzono used various alias such as "Acid Head Organization", "Hobo Summit", "Aurorae", "Aurora Heads" (especially CDs pressed in US) by raves and musical project, but it's unified as the Original Unit Name "Psychedelic Plants Research Laboratory" again.

In the late '80s, PPRL made its debut by the legendary guerrilla live series in NYC, USA, however the album of this unit has released under the name "Aurora Heads" in USA (The same album was released under the name "Psychedelic Plants Research Laboratory" in some parts of Europe and Japan) by the intention of the label (Nerve Nets Records) Fzono has contracted. After that, USA version CDs became most popular, so it is known as "Aurora Heads" in USA and some other parts of the world.

However, in April 2008, as AQi Fzono has removed the base area to his native Japan, he finalized all the activities as the alias "Aurora Heads" which used for made-in-US CDs, and he decided to unify the various alias to the original unit name "Psychedelic Plants Research Laboratory".
Therefore, in future, if/when any particular albums or tunes would be re-published or remixed, according to the above rules, they would be released under the name "Psychedelic Plants Research Laboratory".

A couple of Trance Remix tracks of "Mrs. Cyborg" and "Electrode Land" (under the name "Aurora Heads") in "Trance-Rave Cosmology", Club Remix / Best Hit Album (AQi Fzono with Trance-Rave Daughters) which released in 2007, these tracks became the last work as the alias "Aurora Heads".
